DENTAL EMERGENCIES

EMERGENCY TREATMENT

Whether you are in severe pain, discomfort, something has has broken or something is worrying you, we aim to see you as soon as possible to assess your dental emergency to provide relief as soon as possible.

What is considered a dental emergency?

The most urgent dental emergencies are any condition that requires immediate attention to relieve severe pain, stop bleeding, or prevent permanent damage to your gums or teeth. This may include severe toothaches, knocked-out teeth, broken teeth, dental abscesses, or injuries to the mouth or jaw. Other emergencies like lost or broken restorations or appliances may be important to be seen to, so as to prevent further damage. If you are unsure if your situation counts as a dental emergency, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

How do I make an emergency appointment?

If you are experiencing a dental emergency, please call us immediately on ‭01743 352702 and we will make every effort to see you as soon as possible.

What if I am not registered with the practice?

Whether you are just visiting the area, are not registered with a practice or your practice is unavailable, we will happily try to accommodate you at the earliest availability. If you are on a Dental Plan or Insurance Scheme you may be able to claim back your treatment costs.

What should I do if I can’t get to the practice right away?

If you cannot get to our practice immediately and see an emergency dentist, we may be able to provide you with instructions on how to manage your emergency until you can see us. Depending on the nature of your emergency, we may advise you to take some measures to manage your symptoms. Please call us as soon as possible so we can provide you with guidance and support!

What should I do if I lose a tooth or it is knocked out?

Please call the practice on ‭01743 352702‬ as soon as possible and one of our dentists may be able to save your tooth. If you have the tooth, store it in a glass of milk or hold it in between your cheek and gum while you wait to be seen (this is not advisable for children as they may risk swallowing it).

Why is toothache worse at night time?

Many people suffer with dental pain at night time. A lot of the time the pain makes it unbearable to sleep. A lot of pain at night time is due to the position of you lying down, blood rushing to the head and the pain or swelling inside the tooth increasing.

Will treatment be painful?

We aim to complete your treatment pain free, sometimes this will require local anaesthetic but not always.

How much will it cost?

There is an initial emergency consultation fee of £39. X-rays may also be required (£15 per x-ray).

Once your dentist has performed the assessment of your dental emergency they will discuss the treatment required and if any additional costs apply before treatment starts.

What happens if I need further treatment?

After diagnosis and discussion of your dental emergency, your dentist at Greyfriars Dental will detail the treatment options available. If you are happy to proceed, we will provide a treatment plan detailing the total cost and payment will be taken before completion of the treatment.
