ONLAYS

Repair and strengthen damaged or decayed teeth.

What are onlays and how do they work?

They are custom-made restorations typically crafted from materials such as porcelain, composite resin, or gold. Dental onlays are designed to cover a portion of the tooth’s surface, extending over one or more cusps of the tooth.

Unlike fillings, which are placed and shaped directly into a cavity, onlays are fabricated outside the mouth in a laboratory and then bonded onto the tooth (in a similar way to crowns). They provide a durable and aesthetically pleasing solution for restoring teeth with moderate to severe damage, preserving their structure and function.

How long do onlays last?

With proper care and maintenance, dental onlays can last for many years, often exceeding a decade. Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene practices, such as brushing, flossing, and avoiding excessive force when chewing, can help prolong the lifespan of dental onlays.

Are onlays the best option for my teeth?

Onlays are typically recommended for teeth with moderate to severe damage or decay that cannot be effectively restored with a filling and do not need to be fully crowned.
