Smile with confidence

DENTURES

Restore your smile, speech and chewing function.

What are dentures?

Dentures are custom-made dental prosthetics crafted to replace any missing teeth. They are designed to replicate the natural appearance of teeth, complementing facial features and restoring confidence. Dentures not only fill gaps in the smile but also improve facial harmony and symmetry. They offer a reliable and effective solution to enhance your smile and improve your quality of life. As a removable appliance, they require to be taken out before going to sleep and cleaned and can then be re-inserted when you wake up. Some dentures can be supported by implants to help keep them secure if you do not have adequate bone.

How long does it take to get a denture made?

The timeframe for getting cosmetic dentures varies depending on individual circumstances. It typically involves multiple appointments for impressions, fittings, and adjustments, spanning several weeks to ensure the best results.

How do dentures stay in place?

Each case will vary, however dentures can be retained either by suction (to your palate for example), or by tooth retention (gripping onto teeth that are present), or that can be trained by implants.

Are dentures suitable for me?

Dentures are suitable for most people who have missing teeth and could be suitable to individuals who are not suitable for implants or bridges.

What types of dentures are available?

We offer dentures made from three main materials:
1. Acrylic dentures – They consist of replacement teeth attached to a gum-coloured acrylic base, often supported by metal clasps that grip onto adjacent teeth for stability. The palate (roof of your mouth) is usually covered to achieve good suction.
2. Co/Cr dentures – The skeleton is made from metal which allows for a thinner, and much smaller footprint than other options. They rely on other teeth to support it via clasps that keep it in place. The metal skeleton is not visible until the denture is taken out.
3. Flexible dentures – These are made from a flexible material, typically a type of nylon, offering a lightweight and comfortable alternative to traditional acrylic dentures. They provide a snug fit and are less likely to cause irritation or discomfort. Flexible dentures are ideal for patients who suffer from allergies or sensitive gums.

How do I look after a denture?

Clean your dentures over a sink filled with water, so that if you drop them, they will not break. Begin by rinsing thoroughly in warm water to remove any remaining bits of food. Don’t use water that is too hot, as this can warp the material of your dentures.

You will need to use a specialised denture cleaner or paste. Do not use other substances (even toothpaste) as they can damage the denture. Use a soft and moistened bristle brush, or special denture brush, to gently scrub all the surfaces.

Then you should soak your dentures in denture cleanser, which come in powder, tablet or liquid form and should be mixed with water according to instructions. After they have finished soaking, rinse them in fresh running water to remove all traces of the denture cleanser.

WHAT TO EXPECTMaking your treatment
easy & comfortable

1
Consultation & Assessment
Your dentist will assess you and try to understand your goals and concerns.
2
Impressions
Your dentist will need to take impression moulds of your teeth in order to make a customised tray. The customised tray is then used to take a more detailed and accurate impression. A 3D scan, if suitable, can negate the need for a customised tray. This stage could take 1 or 2 appointments.
3
Bite & shade
Your bite will need to be recorded using a lab made rim and you will also be able to select the shade of the teeth that will go on the denture. This stage should take 1 appointment.
4
Try & finish
A try-in denture can be made out of wax for you to test the fit and make sure you are happy with the aesthetics. If you are happy, your denture can then be manufactured by the lab ready to fit at the final appointment.
